Decison Making
I would say that I used the Collaborating way in handling the class desicion making. I felt that the class was very big and if every one bunch in together, saying their own thought, I think the desicion will get not where. Also because of the amount of time, we have to make a 100% agreement, so I felt that getting into a group and getting a group agreement first then let the group leader said for the other member of the group would be better. Now I have seen how the class when with the decision making, I think I will still choose collaborating. I felt that 4 or 5 people talk for their group better than 80 to 90 people talking for them self.

The collaboration strategy is one of the best, but I am really not sure about breaking up into groups and having group delegates handle the debates. And I think so for two reasons. First of all, we would run out of time way to quickly. Discussion within the groups and later re-discussions within the groups, then discussions between the group heads, all of that would be dramatically time consuming. Besides, someone would have to organize the group leaders too : ) Secondly, because all our leaders were of "emerged" type, how could the groups know that the leaders were not pushing their own interests but the interests of their groups? That would bring even more tension into the discussion.
I think the way we did handle the situation was pretty effective. After all, we did come to a consensus.
That's what I wanted to do because I didn't want people screaming and arguing with eachother the way they did in class. I didn't get what I wanted, but I got something..and that's better than nothing...
I would have to agree with the decision you made to get into a group and then have a group leader speak on behalf of the whole group. Doing it this way makes it easier to see who does or doesn't agree with the choices that are being made. Having people screaming from all ends of the room made it chaos, your way made it so that you only had selected people speak on behalf of a whole group.
